Behind the Bakes
Hi, my name is Emily and I own Bakes by Izzy.
I've loved cake my entire life. Cookies straight from the oven hold a warm spot in my heart. Brownies with a crackly top have always made me swoon.
Sweet treats have a way of making us pause. They give us a moment to JUST BE. And maybe they spread a smile. A little sparkle. A little glee. I want to share that with you. Life is hard, especially now, and nothing has the potential to warm us more than a sweet treat straight from the oven.
What’s in a name?
Bakes by Izzy is an homage to my maiden name, Isovitsch. A nickname for my long gone grandfather and uncles fashioned of the same mold. (Let’s be real, sometimes Isovitsch is just too much to say.) It’s these men, these Izzys, and my mother’s intense cookie baking, that taught me not just the love of all things sweet, but also how those moments of sweetness have the power to transport us.
What I stand for.
Bakes by Izzy believes in the beauty of a Pause. A space to breathe. And most importantly a place to listen. It’s in those Pauses that sweetness, understanding, and empathy can happen. When we can truly listen and make space for others' experiences, in turn allowing a greater space for change and justice.
At our heart we are an anti-racist company, learning everyday how to use our privilege to lift up others. Our goal is to allow for a greater space for inclusivity and equity in our daily lives, our business lives, and in how we eat. And we’ll do that by Pausing.
And with that, I bring you Bakes by Izzy. I hope my treats being you alot of joy and sweetness.
